Abbotsleigh Early Learning & Junior School, 22 Woonona Ave, Wahroonga. NSW
Abbotsleigh is an environment which promotes curiosity and a love of inquiry. This facilitates the acquisition of sound literacy and numeracy skills as a solid foundation for future learning. Working in partnership with parents, we aim to foster the development of the individual child. As the girls’ knowledge of Christianity grows, they are able to make personal decisions about faith. Service opportunities, from a local to global perspective, develop the girls’ sense of compassion and consideration for others. Through rigor, differentiation and explicit teaching, girls are encouraged to strive for personal excellence. Teachers who are passionate educators act as facilitators and guides to ensure the delivery of engaging, exciting and stimulating experiences. Learning within the Junior School is experiential, based on inquiry and research, to promote a spirit of discovery that begins in kindergarten and continues as a lifelong process.
Drawing from a broad and holistic base, the emergent curriculum of the early years is informed by the Reggio Emilia approach and enriched by other leading early childhood philosophies. Learners are encouraged to be discriminating risk takers: curious, optimistic, flexible and tenacious. Students use fundamental competencies in creative, problem solving contexts. The early childhood and primary years are an ideal platform to explore a broad range of opportunities both in the classroom and beyond to ensure the holistic development and wellbeing of each girl. The Early Learning Centre (0-5 years) Transition, Kindergarten—Year 3 classrooms will be open. back to top

The open plan of the centre engages the children, families and educators into a ‘whole centre’ connection creating a platform for success and life long learning. All early learning rooms from 15 months to 5 years will be open. back to top

The program is inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach which is “child originated and teacher framed”. The children are viewed as curious, competent learners and families are considered a vital part of their learning. Strong partnerships with families are essential in connecting students with their community. Lansdale Primary, The Broadview, Lansdale. WA
Landsdale Primary School is an Independent Public School and is part of the Ashdale Independent Public School Cluster.  In the early childhood area of the school, teachers believe there are different types of curriculum experiences that students should be exposed to in order to become life long, capable learners. These sorts of experiences include developing a child's curiosity, interacting with others and the world around them, and representing their ideas in a variety of creative ways. They use the Reggio Emilia approach to education as they believe that children are capable, interested and curious learners. Adults listen closely to children and ask questions to explore their ideas. Teachers provide experiences for children which provoke their thinking and learning. Parents are active partners in their children's education. Early childhood classrooms will be open.back to top

REAIE Documentation Centre Opening

The Documentation Centre at the REAIE Office in Melbourne has been designed to enable members to enjoy browsing through a variety of documentation, including projects, daily journals and of course a selection of resource books.

We hope it will be a place where REAIE Members can enjoy focused discussion and dialogue, resulting in inspiration and transformation of practice. During the times that the Documentation centre is open, a member of the REAIE committee as well as someone from our newly formed ‘Friends of REAIE’ will be available to facilitate further discussion and collaboration.

It will also be possible for members to book a separate time to visit the Documentation centre particularly if there is a group of people wishing to come together such as a Network Group, Centre or School.  These ‘sessions by appointment’ must be booked through the REAIE office and dates can be negotiated according to the availability of an REAIE facilitator.

Whilst this initiative is now open to the members, we do consider it to be a ‘work in progress’ and will enjoy watching it grow and change over time. We would be delighted if you have a project or something of interest which you have documented which could be added to the collection. Wherever possible, it would be preferable, to have a copy that we could keep, rather than it being on loan.

When visiting the Documentation centre you will notice some panels that reflect the history of REAIE. This is the beginning of a Research Project tracing the early beginnings of the organization and what and how it has evolved. We invite you to be part of this project by contributing memorabilia, photographs and reflections. It has been 20 years since Jan Millikan first explored the Pedagogical Approach of Reggio Emilia with Australian educators and we are very keen to develop an accurate history to honour this important collaboration.
